Lesson Book 1 is pre-reading. Concepts taught are: How to sit at the piano; Correct hand position; High and low; Loud and soft (forte and piano); Keyboard topography; Bar line and measure, Quarter, half, whole notes and rests; and Repeat signs. The first pieces in the book are played on the black keys. Later in the book, C D E for the RH and C B A for the LH (Middle C position) are taught with letter notes (the name of the note is written inside the note head).
The Music Workbook contains pages of coloring, tracing, matching, ear training and listening that have been carefully designed to reinforce the musical concepts introduced in the Music Lesson Book 1. In full color, 48 pages.
The unique Music Discovery Book contains songs that allow the students to experience music through singing, movement and rhythm activities. Music appreciation is fostered through carefully chosen music; Mozart, Beethoven and Sousa are introduced. Melodies to sing, using either solfege or letter names, help students learn to match pitch and discover tonal elements of music. Correlates to the Music Lesson Book 1. The first 16 pages of Music Recital Book 1 interweave new music into an all-new story about Beethoven Bear, Mozart Mouse and the Magical Music Book. Students will enjoy the imaginative story while applying what they have learned from Music Lesson Book 1. This section of the book is a ready-made recital when a narrator reads the story and students perform the pieces in the appropriate places! The second section of the book includes challenge pieces based on folk tunes that require students to listen carefully and enter correctly as the teacher or a parent plays the duet.
The Notespeller & Sight-Play Book 1 reinforces note-reading skills based on the concepts introduced in the Music Lesson Book 1. Each page of the Notespeller & Sight-Play Book has two activities---a written activity and a playing example. The written activity reinforces notes on the keyboard and staff through coloring, circling, drawing, or matching. The sight-play examples help students relate notes and musical concepts to performance on the keyboard, move out of fixed hand positions, and identify melodic and rhythm patterns.
